Community Support
Social Awareness
At Prime Trust, we believe that economic empowerment alone is insufficient without engaged knowledge of the important social factors that contribute to inequality. As such, Prime Trust regularly facilitates community presentations on healthcare, financial literacy, gender inequality, environmental issues, and other relevant topics. These presentations are often conducted in coordination with community stakeholders, past partners including the Pondicherry Department of Health and Human Services, and the Mukhta Foundation. Renovation of Government Schools
Prime Trust has recently undertaken a project proposed by the Government of Pondicherry. This will involve work such as the construction of classrooms, major repair of facilities and the establishment of new smart classrooms including the installation of computers. We are organising the construction work, management of funds and general monitoring of the work carried out. The project will take 4-5 years and will benefit 400 schools.
This is a major project, which will require a large supply of resources and funds. Any donations, monetary or in the form of materials and resources would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to offer your support please contact us directly or visit our donate page. Monetary donations via wire transfer are preferable.

Rural Water and Sanitation
60 million people in India currently live without access to a reliable and easily accessible source of clean drinking water, comprising 19% of the world's total. Lack of clean drinking water leads to a significantly higher prevalence of waterborne illnesses among India's rural poor, which in turn leads to high mortality rates, stunted growth, and a general exacerbation of socioeconomic disparities. Prime Trust is working to reduce this acute problem through partnerships with international nongovernmental organizations to install modern wells in the rural villages surrounding Pondicherry. This includes our Uppuvelore project where we provided clean drinking water and improved sanitation for the school children and the broader village populace, partnered with Hamap Humanitaire,
Rural Health Missions and Public Outreach
Rural villages and towns in Tamil Nadu have disproportionately high rates of death from preventable and treatable illnesses relative to their urban counterparts. This is largely due to lack of proper sanitation and the impoverished condition of a substantial percentage of the village inhabitants. Since access to proper healthcare is the most fundamental prerequisite to economic empowerment and self-reliance, Prime Trust regularly partners with local and internationally-based organizations to provide critical care, prevention check-ups, vaccinations, eye care, and other health-related services to Tamil Nadu's rural poor. Prime Trust organized ts first health mission in 2012 in collaboration with the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, checking for eye cataracts for the villagers of Uppuvelore.
Support for the Homeless
The urban poor and homeless of Pondicherry suffer many challenges; systematic disparities based on caste and gender, lack of governmental services, lack of job and educational opportunities, urbanization and migration. These all contribute to an environment whereby individuals can become trapped in a cycle of poverty. Prime Trust has supported 10 homeless families through our Homeless Centre and Outreach Programs. At our centre we provided them with services such as counseling, domestic violence protection, de-addiction and rehabilitation support. We also arrange access to vocational training and microcredit opportunities, helping them to achieve financial stability. Children were also provided with access to a quality education and attendance to our free Evening Tuition classes.
