Integrated Child Development
Today, UNICEF estimates that India has the highest number of child laborers in the world, a total of 12 million. A substantial portion of these children live in situations of poverty and exploitation. Though several factors continually contribute to this staggering number, the overall leading cause is a lack of educational opportunities provided for children.
At Prime Trust we believe that there is no better way to pull a child out of a life of poverty than through education. As such we endeavor to enrich children’s lives through educational and social programs—including remedial schools, extra-curricular activities and child parliaments.

Janani Home for Girls
Janani Home for girls was established to create a safe and structured environment, where underprivileged girls, born into deprivation can focus on their studies and develop individually. Girls are often neglected in Indian society. This home is therefore incredibly important for their lives, creating more opportunities for their future. Prime Trust provides educational programming, financial sponsorship, and a network of positive role models for the girls.

Remedial Schools
Prime Trust runs remedial schools that provide free after school education to bridge the gap in learning between the expected proficiency and the actual learning level of the child. Often run by native English-speaking volunteers, the schools emphasize the teaching of spoken English, providing a nurturing environment where the children learn to not only build their second-language proficiency but also build self-confidence. Teachers try to tutor individually, encouraging each child to continue his/her education while focusing on the difficulties a particular child may have . More than 150 children from low-economic families living in Pondicherry are benefiting from this project. If you wish to volunteer at our remedial school, please visit our application page.
SishuBhavan Daycare Center
SishuBhavan is Prime Trust's daycare program for children of parents who are otherwise unable to afford quality childcare. The program provides a warm, caring, and safe environment for children to grow, learn, and have fun. Children enrolled in the program benefit from the direction of a highly motivated and professionally trained staff.
Children's Parliaments
Every few months Prime Trust organizes Children's Parliaments for children of the remedial schools and for children of Self-Help Group members. These parliaments are designed for children between the age of 9 and 14 and encourage them to engage in local, national and international democratic processes. We promote leadership skills and confidence in being involved in processes that can have an impact on their lives at a young age, in the hopes that this kind of assertive and active role will follow them into adulthood.

Child Sponsorships
In order to support both the children of our Self-Help group members and the children enrolled in our various programs, we established a child sponsorship program. As earning an education can be quite an expense for these low income families, the money from these donations pay for annual school fees and for school supplies, ensuring that these children do not have to work to supplement the families’ incomes for the opportunity to go to school. It is also a great way to foster relationships between donors to the organization and families in the Pondicherry community, with Prime Trust encouraging direct communication between the donor and the families/children. And, when the financial contributions of donors are not sufficient or pull out of the project, Prime Trust takes the responsibility to provide the children with the necessary funds.

Summer School
Every year, Prime Trust organizes a summer camp for children from our remedial schools and other related programs. This summer camp lasts roughly a month and the children are taught various subjects including conversational English, yoga, Sanskrit, French and other skills our volunteers are able to provide.
